Progress in Dealing with Kerdiffstown Fire

Representatives of the Evironmental Protection Agency, the Garda, the Health Service Executive and Kildare County Council met this afternoon (29 January) to advance plans for dealing with the fire at the Kerdiffstown landfill site near Naas.

Round the clock security for the site has been procured by the EPA and is now fully in place. Local residents are being supplied with air quality data and information on progress in relation to the fire. HSE staff met local people this morning to hear their concerns and public health advice and assistance are being given.

A firefighting strategy has been developed, and preliminary ground clearance is under way to facilitate it. Brigades will be on site from tomorrow (Sunday) morning to resume firefighting operations.

The entire landfill site remains a very dangerous area, and is out-of-bounds for safety reasons. People should not enter it for any reason.
