2018 BiodivERsA Joint Call

Pre-announcement of the BiodivERsA Call on Biodiversity and Health

BiodivERsA is pleased to announce the launch of its next call on the theme “Biodiversity and its influence on animal, human and plant health”.

This call will include two actions, supporting two different types of research projects:

  • Action A will support collaborative research projects¹, gathering different research teams and generating new primary data;
  • Action B will support research synthesis projects², gathering individuals forming a working group who perform research and answer research questions using existing data sets. These research projects will not collect or produce new primary data, the core activity of these projects being synthesising and/or analysing existing data (synthesising concepts and ideas is also eligible). Note that these projects differ from systematic reviews or knowledge synthesis which are based on a synthesis of publications and reports.

The call is planned to be launched in early October 2018, with the mandatory submission of pre-proposals in November 2018 (indicative schedule).

Scientific teams will be invited to form transnational research consortia with:

  • teams from minimum 3 countries participating in the call for Action A,
  • group members from minimum 5 countries participating in the call for Action B.

The research proposals will be evaluated across criteria of scientific excellence and policy/societal relevance/stakeholder engagement (for more information on stakeholder engagement in funded projects, please check the BiodivERsA Stakeholder Engagement Handbook). It is also expected that the transnational added value of the projects will be clearly demonstrated.

At this stage, the following countries have expressed a preliminary interest to participate to the call (Y=Yes ; N=No). Please note that this list may evolve, pending final decisions by funding organisations:

² This corresponds to the format of projects classically supported by biodiversity/ecology centres like NCEAS, sDiv or CESAB for instance.
