Drinking water audits
The EPA carries out audits at water treatment plants:
-
To ensure that public water supplies comply with the Drinking Water Regulations
- In response to drinking water quality failures or incidents
- To check that remedial actions have been carried out by Irish Water
- As spot checks on supplies that have not had any water quality failures
During an audit the EPA Inspector may look at some or all aspects of a water supply, including:
- Protection of the water source
- Treatment processes
- Treatment capacity
- Storage of treated water
- Distribution network
The EPA issues an audit report to Irish Water following each audit, setting out its findings and recommendations.
