June 2nd, 2023: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were notified at 09:09 on 2nd June 2023 of a major fire at the Killarney Waste Disposal Waste Facility, located at Aughacurreen, Killarney, County Kerry.
Kerry Fire & Rescue Service responded to the fire alarm at 23:30 on 1st June 2023. The fire has now been extinguished. Fire Service Personnel remain at the scene and continue to monitor the situation.
EPA inspectors are currently assessing the situation. Firewater is being contained on site and will be sent for appropriate disposal.
While continuing to liaise with the Fire Brigade and Gardaí, the EPA is undertaking its own investigation, after which the Agency will consider further enforcement action.
