January 22nd, 2024: The EPA was notified at 06:58 on 20th January 2024 of a fire at the Starrus Eco Holdings Limited Waste Facility, located at Cappagh Road, Cappogue, Finglas, Dublin 11.

Dublin Fire Brigade responded to the fire alarm at 06:00 on 20th January 2024.

On receipt of notification of the incident the EPA arranged a site visit, and was on-site at 12:15. The EPA confirmed that the firewater was being retained in a dedicated attenuation tank and that the ambient air quality monitoring network was indicating no significant impact on air quality. The fire was extinguished at 17:30. Fire Service Personnel remained at the scene until 21:00 to monitor the situation. The charred waste has been removed to an authorised waste facility for processing. The EPA is currently liaising with Uisce Éireann and the Licensee regarding the safe removal of the firewater.

While continuing to liaise with the relevant authorities, the EPA is undertaking its own investigation, after which it will consider whether any enforcement action is appropriate.
