EPA Prosecutes Abbott Ireland

On the 21st of October 2019 the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Abbott Ireland, Dromore West, County Monaghan, at Monaghan District Court.
Abbott Ireland pleaded guilty to breaches of conditions of its Industrial Emissions Licence (P0687-02) by:
- Exceedance of the Emission Limit Values (ELV) for molybdate-reactive phosphate (MRP) set out in Schedule B of the said licence by one or more specified emissions from the 10th of September 2018 to the 14th of November 2018.
- Failing to ensure that there were no other emissions of environmental significance, namely that there was discharge of untreated effluent to permeable ground water and/or surface water, being an emission of environmental significance, during the period between 13th of January 2019 and 14th of January 2019.
Judge McLoughlin convicted Abbott Ireland on the above charges and imposed a fine of €1,000 on each charge. Costs were also awarded.
