EPA prosecutes Irish Water (Roscommon D0116-01)

On 15th June 2022, the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Irish Water (Roscommon) at The Four Courts.

Irish Water pleaded guilty to:

  • Failure to comply with Condition 3.3 on or about the 14th of May 2020, in that one or more specified discharges from the waste water works exceeded the emission limit values for Orthophosphate (as P) as set out in Schedule A: Discharges and Discharge Monitoring, of the said Licence.
  • Failure to comply with Condition 3.3 on or about the 30th of September 2020, in that one or more specified discharges from the waste water works exceeded the emission limit values for Orthophosphate (as P) as set out in Schedule A: Discharges and Discharge Monitoring, of the said Licence.

Judge Halpin, having heard the evidence convicted Irish Water on both charges and imposed a fine of €500 in total. Costs were also awarded.
