EPA Prosecutes Gairdini Unlimited Company (P0639-03)

On 19th February 2024, the Environmental Protection Agency prosecuted Gairdini Unlimited Company at Mallow District Court, Mallow, Co Cork.
Gairdini Unlimited Company, Lacka Cross, Lackanastooka, Ballydesmond, Mallow, County Cork pleaded guilty to breaches of conditions of its IPPC Licence (P0639-03) by:
- Failing to comply with Condition 5.1, on or about the 1st of September 2022, in that they permitted discharges to water containing Ammonia, being a discharge of environmental significance, from discharge point SW-3.
- Failing to comply with Condition 5.1, on or about the 21st of October 2022, in that they permitted discharges to water containing Propiconazole, being a discharge of environmental significance, from discharge point SW-3.
- Failing to comply with Condition 5.1, on or about the 21st of October 2022, in that they permitted discharges to water containing Tebuconazole, being a discharge of environmental significance, from discharge point SW-3.
- Failing to comply with Condition 8.5, on or about the 6th of September 2022, in that stored waste was not clearly labelled or appropriately segregated.
Judge Roberts, having heard the evidence, convicted the company on the above charges and took a further five charges into consideration. He imposed fines totalling €6,500 and a donation of €5,500 to the Kanturk Trout Angling Club. Costs were agreed.
