Ambient gamma dose rate

We are constantly exposed to natural and human-made sources of radiation with most of our exposure coming from natural sources of radiation.  Levels of radiation vary from place to place.  Even at one location, radiation levels vary over the course of the day.

Ambient gamma dose rate data from the National Radiation Monitoring Network can be viewed on this page from 23 monitoring stations around Ireland.  Exposure to radiation is expressed in terms of radiation dose and the unit of measurement is the sievert.  The data shown on this page are in µSv/h and are typically less than 0.1 µSv/h.  These are extremely low levels and do not pose a risk to human health or the environment.
