Project Abstract

The objective of this project is to identify features that constitute resilience for coastal communities in Ireland, and how those features might be realized, based on current international practice and tested through stakeholder engagement. This will be achieved by conducting a global literature review to identify the state of the art for community resilience and what form of indicators could be used to measure progress. The project will focus on developing a cross-sectoral vision of climate resilience in the marine and coastal sectors, which includes a description of the impacts, potential actions and governance structures that could be needed to increase resilience. The outcome of the project will be to deliver a set of roadmaps to (1) Local Authorities and (2) Coastal Communities to facilitate a transition to increased resilience to a changing climate that delivers more integration across marine and coastal sectors and their respective management authorities, and enable communities to have better access to information and strengthen adaptive capacity. The project will focus on how implementation of existing policy can support processes of MSP and ICM used to deliver resilience in marine and coastal areas, recognising the respective statutory and non-statutory basis for both approaches.
