Project Abstract

As part of the EUs energy and climate goals, renewable energy sources (RES) will play a key role with a renewable energy target of accounting for at least 27% of final energy consumption in the EU by 2030. Power generating technologies (e.g. hydropower) strongly depend on meteorological and climatic conditions. Climate change will thus affect power generation while energy demands continue to increase with economic development and a growing population. As a result, there is a pressing need to provide targeted and usable information for end-users in relation to the impacts of climate change for RES, electricity demand and the whole power system. CLIM2POWER will create a bridge between complex scientific model-based knowledge and targeted usable information for end-users by developing a web-based Climate Service (CS) addressing, at a seasonal timescale, how climate may impact RES, electricity demand and the whole power system. The CS will connect climate data, hydrological models, RES power simulation tools and energy system and electricity models in an interactive user-friendly layout to support decision-making of both private (e.g. energy companies) and public end-users (e.g. power market regulators). UCC will play a key role in determining end-user requirements in terms of information needs and business logic.
