Project Abstract

DeWaPIC develops a framework for wave model predictions on climatological scales. It will use data of climate models to force the wave models WAM and SWAN to create decadal wave climate predictions for Ireland. Additionally a SURF model will be developed and coupled to SWAN. It will allow to estimate coastal waves and wave overtopping. By statistical post-processing we will create a full distribution of those variables. In case studies we will investigate coastal sites on the West Coast of Ireland and evaluate how waves and their coastal impact will change on decadal scales. The framework will set the Marine Institute into position to investigate coastal changes on time scales from seasons to centuries and will allow to create important information for coastal stakeholders.
