Project Abstract

Transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable economy in the period to 2050 is the long-term goal of Irish climate policy, as set out in the National Climate Policy Statement (DECLG, 2015) and the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Act (2015). Ireland faces challenges in meeting its Climate Change policy commitments to the period 2020. These challenges become more acute for the period to 2030 and beyond. To deliver on the measures which will be contained in the forthcoming Mitigation and Adaptation Plans of the Government, profound behavioural changes will be required to further the transition to a low carbon economy and to adapt to the implications of climate change. This Fellowship will adopt a range of methodologies from the behavioural sciences to aid our understanding of behaviour in relation to the environment and utilise this information to aid the design of environmental policy measures to stimulate change
