Project Abstract
Consensus is emerging that climate change exacerbates humanitarian crises globally through increased frequency of freak weather incidences, resource conflict and migration. Governments are responding to climate change as a security issue and states are deploying their armed forces for humanitarian purposes as a reaction to crises. Knowledge of how thisnew complex paradigm is influencing responses to humanitarian crises is critical to guide best practice in dealing with these scenarios. This project will explain how military resources are being used to deal with emergency humanitarian crises that are increasingly familiar as a result of climate change. It will assess if all factors are accounted for by assessing the cooperation from the perspectives of (i) the state, (ii) human rights based approach and (iii) gender, religion and race.
