Project Abstract

This project will focus on the recent peatland landslide events in Donegal, Leitrim and Kerry and will seek to characterise the environmental setting of the landslides, determine the main contributing factors to the failures and further determine any shared conditions that may identify susceptibility in 3 additional areas of interest to GSI and NPWS. This assessment will also include an examination of relevant environmental and anthropologic factors. It is envisaged that the results of this project, will be used to assess the potential to update Geological Survey Irelands National Landslide Susceptibility Map and will produce technical notes for documentation(s) related to peatland land use and peat stability in Ireland in order to assist Local Authorities and other related bodies concerned with planning and land use.
