Project Abstract

As part of the 6th assessment cycle of the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) a special report on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems will be produced. The special report will be supported by the fellow who will work directly with the IPCC WG III Technical Support Unit (TSU) which is based in Imperial College London, UK. The special report will progress through several drafting stages to be submitted to the IPCC for approval by August 2019. The focus of this research fellowship will be to translate and transfer state-of-the-art knowledge of land-use interactions with climate change gained from the IPCC special report drafting process into an Irish context. This will be delivered as part of 3 proposed work packages which will begin with a literature review and result in a final project report being produced for the EPA. As well as producing reports the fellow will actively engage in dissemination of the work with all relevant stakeholders, culminating in a dissemination workshop at the end of the fellowship.
