Project Abstract
Metals are an essential requirement for plant and crop growth, however, inherent background levels of many metals in regional soils coupled with anthropogenic sources of metal(loids) (e.g. diffuse, regional land application of biosolid products) has resulted in elevated levels of some metal(loids), which in turn has given cause for concern regarding environmental and human health effects. This study will : (1) undertake a thorough review of the levels of metal(loid)s likely to be present in soil and potential anthropogenic sources 2) analyze human exposure and adverse health impacts using a source-pathway-receptor conceptual modelling and risk assessment approaches. It is anticipated over the course of the project (12 months) the research will result in 1 peer reviewed publication (tentative title: Cumulative health risks of metal(loids) through aggregative pathways) and 1 final project report which will detail the project outcomes. It is also anticipated the research will result in a presentation of results at an international conference.
