Project Abstract
Climate adaptation planning for vulnerable locations needs to be spatially responsive and context-specific, due to the contextually sensitive nature of climate impacts and the adaptive capacity of local communities. Spatial designers have the skills to respond creatively to the nuances of place. However to design for climate resilience they will need to work with a broader design team, inclusive of climate scientists, hydrologists and coastal engineers. To advance the emergent practice of spatial design for resilience in Ireland, this research will explore the more mature parallel practice-pedagogy continuum that has been fostered in the New York City Region in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.
