Project Abstract
A spatially- and temporally-resolved emission inventory of is a pre-requisite for many aspects of air quality modelling (AQM) approaches which are being adopted to fulfil CAF� Directive requirements. While emission inventories have been compiled at a European and national level, the lack of appropriate �bottom-up� inventories in Ireland has seriously impeded AQM applications and restricted detailed evaluation of the abatement potential of air quality management plans. The development of comprehensive emission inventories is proposed, in collaboration with the EPA-TCD AQM fellow, to enable ambient air quality modelling for Ireland at local, regional and national levels for a range of pollutants required under the CAF� Directive, particularly targeting NOx, PM10 and PM2.5. The key objectives of this project are: - A review of national and best international practise in �bottom-up� emissions inventory development - Design and implement a GIS-based emission inventory system compatible with AQM and EPA dissemination requirements - Collate emissions data and statistics required for emission inventory development - Compile a national bottom-up emission inventory - Develop and implement a framework for urban emission inventory compilation, including application and validation for the Dublin conurbation - Design GIS-based emission dissemination tools at a range of spatial and temporal resolutions
