Project Abstract
The proposed project, entitled �Eco-HDV� aims at evaluating the impacts of adaptation of eco-driving training (EDT) programs in the Irish Heavy Duty Vehicle (HDV) fleet including the freight sector. Eco-driving and related practises have shown to improve fuel efficiency and reduce vehicular exhaust emissions in the HDV fleet internationally. There exists little to no research investigating the impacts of eco-driving and adaptation of eco-driving training in the Irish HDV fleet. The projects aims at quantifying the effectiveness of EDT in the Irish HDV fleet and investigate related policy implications. This project will focus on identifying the perception and awareness of EDT in freight sector, the best eco-driving practises that exist at present in Ireland, analysing the immediate and the long-term impacts of adaptation of eco-driving programs and developing simulation models to estimate the future policy implications. The project will perform a comparative before-and-after analysis of the effect of EDT in driver behaviour change using a driving simulator based experiment. Furthermore, the project will generate guidelines for adaptation and evaluation of eco-driving programs to reduce vehicular emissions from Irish HDV fleet.
