Project Abstract

This proposal addresses the question of how coordination complexes can be used as catalysts promoting photocatalytic CO2 reductions in the presence of suitable photosensitizers. We will optimise CO2 fixation rates and activity by varying ligands and metal ions of the complexes, which operate in solution as homogenous catalysts. A second aspect of the work investigates the solid state structures and CO2 storage capacity of selected complexes that self assemble into porous networks with extraordinary surface areas. CO2 storage materials are of industrial interest and the CO2 activations in solid state systems are complementary to our solution studies.
