Project Abstract
In this research we seek to deploy and develop a technique used to infer Irish Greenhouse Gases using a combination of high precision observations from a network of three Irish sites and inverse modelling to produce top down estimates of CH4 and CO2 emissions. The technique has recently been deployed at NUIG to provide estimates of CH4 for 2012. The work here will build on from this and provide multiyear estimates for CH4 along quantification of uncertainty by the deployment of differing meteorological input data, inversion schemes and apriori input data. The technique will be extended by utilising a new inversion scheme for CO2. Results from a recent bottom up spatially dis aggregated emission inventory will be compared to the top down method and methodologies will be assess in order to identify areas of greatest uncertainties. Ultimately this will help in producing the most accurate estimation of emissions which will in turn feed into effective mitigation strategies.
