Project Abstract
CSL has been at the forefront of sustainability research and innovation in Ireland, working on EPA funded projects relating to innovative approaches towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals for Irish enterprises, stimulating behaviour change to promote going beyond compliance in Irish industry, establishment and management of the Large Water Users COP, and investigation of digitalisation opportunities across the industrial water lifecycle. In addition, CSL is the management partner for Skillnet Ireland's Climate ready academy which provides training and upskilling to Irish businesses across a broad range of sustainability themes such as energy, circularity, water and transport in collaboration with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, Chambers Ireland, Bord Bia and Enterprise Ireland. Based on CSL's established position as a leader in engagement of Irish businesses in sustainability initiatives it well positioned to expand its activities to the establishment and management of a proposed Waste and Circularity Community of Practice (COP). The proposed Waste and Circularity COP would serve as a platform for Irish organisations from all sectorial backgrounds, ranging from SMEs and large organisations, to demonstrate and share innovative solutions while also identifying skills gaps relating to effective resource efficiency and circularity management to inform development of enterprise focused training programs, methodologies and tools.
The proposed COP would be a cross-cutting initiative aligned with the EPA's priority thematic areas and be open to all Irish firms (approximately 250k), regardless of sector, to allow cross pollination of ideas and dissemination of best practice that is transferable across a range of sites. This will facilitate Irish organisations to pursue collective action to meet national targets such as increased recycling rates, re-circular use rates, reduction in waste quantity in absolute terms or efficiency metrics, and development of sectorial efficiency benchmarks based on consensus among participating organisations.
