Project Abstract

The research proposed in this application is focussed on developing ionic liquid technology for the absorption of CO2 and for the fabrication of new gas separation membranes that are cheap, highly stable and highly selective for the permeation of CO2.Task-specific ionic liquids, which are capable of absorbing high concentrations of CO2, will be synthesised and then used to absorb CO2. Ionic liquid monomers will be formed and then used to fabricate membrane-like poly-ionic liquids. These new membranes and other membrane-supported ionic liquids will be evaluated as permselective gas separation membranes for CO2.
