Project Abstract
Shareclub was founded in February 2022 by Sarah Fliessbach. Last year during lockdown, Sarah started ordering delivery food to support local restaurants negatively impacted by the pandemic and was shocked by the amount of packaging it came in. This was the catalyst for Sarah to found Shareclub, which aims to eliminate disposable packaging from takeaway and delivery food and drink by introducing a digital circular packaging system that allows customers to order food and drink in reusable cups and containers. As part of this system, customers borrow reusable containers without deposit via a QR code, which can be subsequently returned to any participating outlet. Shareclub is a circular solution that will make it easy and convenient for consumers and businesses to reduce waste, and contribute to the creation of genuine wider circular economy in Ireland.
The pilot project will provide an evidence base for subsequent expansion of Shareclub throughout Ireland. It aims to trial the digital reusable packaging system for takeaway food and drink in 10 participating cafés and restaurants in Dublin city centre over a 12 month period. Takeaway services provided by food delivery platforms, such as Deliveroo, will not be included in this initial pilot scheme. However, it is anticipated that cooperation with these platforms will take place at a later junction.
