Project Abstract
A comprehensive analysis of previous and ongoing research related to the occurrence, risk, fate and transport of antimicrobial residues and antimicrobial resistant organisms to and within the environment will be undertaken to identify and inform research needs for the coming years (2020 to 2025). The focus of this analysis will be on national considerations in preparation of the work programme for the second revision of Irelands National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance. Consideration will be given to emerging issues identified internationally and how these may relate to the Irish situation. Where research needs are identified a clear rationale for same will be outlined. A workshop will be convened to bring together key stakeholders across the human health, animal health, agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture and environment sectors in a One Health framework. Outcomes of this workshop will be prioritisation of the research needs identified, and enhancement of the One Health capacity in Ireland to tackle the global problem of antimicrobial resistance.
