Project Abstract
Climate change has driven changes in vegetation seasonality (phenology) over large parts of the Northern Hemisphere, including Ireland, over the last number of decades. The main aim of this project is to determine if a robust methodology exists for the characterisation of such seasonality changes from medium spatial resolution satellite data over Ireland and if these changes can be related to specific climate variables. The relationship between landcover and spatio-temporal trends in seasonality will also be explored. If this methodology is successful, time series of image and climate data may be used to study phenological changes over longer time periods. The mapping of land surface phenology at a national-scale should complement existing ground-based methods at a number of point locations across the country.
