Project Abstract

Sportsturf superintendents are under increasing pressure to provide immaculate turf surfaces capable of withstanding all year round wear and use. This demands frequent and intense nutrient applications to promote and maintain plant growth. It has the potential to cause significant nutrient leaching and pollution of both surface and groundwater sources. This project seeks to control nutrient loss using composted material applications and to investigate any potential disease suppressive properties.. Also there is an increasing government demand to create new markets for composted municipal waste. The ability of composted materials to suppress common turf grass diseases will also be investigated. A code of practise for using composted material on Turf grass will be produced.
