Project Abstract

At FoodCloud we work tirelessly to rescue and redistribute as much surplus food as we can to our community partners. Unfortunately, we cannot always find a home for the surplus food that we receive into our Hubs. Sometimes there is too much of one product, the product is too short dated, or there is limited demand for the product in the community and voluntary sector. When this happens some of the surplus we receive becomes waste and we send it for anaerobic digestion. The FoodCloud Kitchen will transform surplus food, that we cannot get to the community sector, into a spectacular surplus food offering and deliver to citizens and corporate partners in the greater Dublin area and beyond. The FoodCloud Kitchen offers a platform to showcase innovation with surplus food to key stakeholders, specifically targeting corporate and food industry partners, to inspire all actors in the supply chain to reduce their food waste at work or at home. The key objectives of the FoodCloud Kitchen: -Reduce waste in our own Hubs -To drive an awareness and understanding of the problem of food waste -Demonstrate the innovative solutions to reducing food waste -To engage our food industry partners and their employees to take action on food waste at work and at home -To engage active citizens in an innovative way around positive climate action -To explore opportunities for FoodCloud to continue to innovate with surplus food to further reduce food waste -To generate new streams of sustainable income to support our core activities of redistributing surplus food to community and voluntary organisations across the country.
