Project Abstract
In this research we seek to continue deploy and develop a technique used to infer Irish Greenhouse Gases using a combination of high precision observations from a network of three Irish sites and inverse modelling to produce top down estimates of national methane emissions. The technique has been deployed at NUIG to provide estimates of CH4 for the period 2012-2017 We have also worked on the quantification of uncertainty by the deployment of differing meteorological input data, inversion schemes and apriori input data. The work here will build on from this and provide multiyear estimates for CH4 for 2018-2021. The technique will be further developed by constraining inversions with satellite data. We will also develop and implement a CO2 algorithm that we have been validating.
Results of recent bottom up spatially dis aggregated emission inventories will be compared to the top down method and methodologies will be assess in order to identify areas of greatest uncertainties. Ultimately this will help in producing the most accurate estimation of emissions which will in turn feed into effective mitigation strategies.
