Project Abstract
It is intended, that this research project would build on the work already carried out under the water governance research programme (2020-2021) including the lessons learned from water governance and also the case studies completed in respect of climate policy and biodiversity. As with the previous research programme, the aim would be to discuss a number of specific areas of enquiry to be addressed during the research programme with key stakeholders, (EPA, key Departments etc.). In line with what is proposed for the waste project, specific outputs would be discussed and reviewed with the steering group appointed to the project as the research progresses. To maintain consistency with the waste research project it is also envisaged that synthesis reports produced at the end of year one and year two will form the main research output. In the initial stages, a comprehensive literature review on implementation science will be one area for consideration as will an assessment of the transferability of concepts, tools and approaches from the health sector to the environmental domain.
In summary, this research project will comprise three key elements;
1. An assessment of implementation Science and its relevance to environmental policy
2. Through the lens of implementation science applying a case study approach in assessing the potential role for a national environmental policy position in facilitating coherence and better implementation; and
3. A specific case study on national climate adaptation governance through the lens of implementation science.
