The Environmental Protection Agency is in the process of developing a new Strategic Plan for the period 2022-2026.
Summary: This consultation has now closed. In developing the draft Strategic Plan we have reviewed our purpose, vision and values and identified the key strategic outcomes we want to achieve to ensure we deliver on our purpose and vision. While we will continue to deliver a wide range of functions across all aspects of environmental protection, we have identified a number of specific priorities which we aim to achieve by 2026.
This consultation has now closed.
The plan is being developed in the context of our latest assessment of Ireland’s Environment, which found that the overall quality of Ireland’s environment is not what it should be, and that the outlook is not optimistic unless we accelerate the implementation of solutions across all sectors and society. Furthermore, while the recent OECD review of the EPA found that ‘the EPA has established itself as a trusted and respected body for environmental and radiological protection that is recognised for its scientific integrity’ the OECD made a number of key recommendations to further strengthen the Agency, which we intend to address over the course of this Strategy.
Consultation with stakeholders is a critical part of the development of this plan. As such we are undertaking a public consultation process seeking the views of the public and stakeholders on what should be included in the plan.
