Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas. It has no taste, colour or smell. It is formed in the ground by the radioactive decay of uranium which is present in all rocks and soils. The World Health Organisation has categorised radon as a carcinogen, in the same group as asbestos and tobacco smoke.

Ireland's annual inventory submissions including the National Inventory Report (NIR) and Common Reporting Format (CRF) data files and supplementary information if available. The NIR contains transparent and detailed information on the inventory for years 1990-2015. The CRF tables contain all greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals, implied emission factors and activity data.

Ireland's submissions under UNECE Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP) for 2016 consist only of Annex 1 tables. The Informative Inventory Report was not submitted in 2016. The Annex I tables contain air pollutant emission data and activity data for years 1990-2014

The quality of Ireland’s bathing waters remains very high with just over 93% of identified bathing waters (128 of 137) meeting the minimum EU standards for ‘Sufficient’ water quality over the 4 year assessment period 2012-2015. Full details can be view in the downloaded report.

The NG4 guidance note was originally published in 2012, and this current update to NG4 was published in 2016. This revised Noise Guidance Note (NG4) is intended to assist licensed sites with the assessment of their potential and actual noise impact on the local environment. In all cases this revised version of NG4 should be applied by licensees and consultants.
